Used Military Brass

Postby dbyte » Sun Mar 15, 2009 11:52 pm

I sent emails to Coburn, Inhofe and Sullivan. I hope there is something we can do about this. In any case I am going to look at a reloader and make good reuse of my brass.

We will be posting the email we received from DOD as well as any additional information within the next 12-16 hours. Thanks so much and lets get to work!!! Georgia Arms

I guess that our voices can be heard.. There is another issue for us to work on though.. US HR 45. Another Gun Control Bill. I will be working with Michelle to help get something posted on this as well.

FINALLY a response from Sullivan.

Postby dbyte » Thu Apr 09, 2009 3:45 pm

This just arrived, still not one from Coburn, but thank you to John for at least acknowledging that there was an issue.

Dear Friend,

Thank you for contacting me regarding your opposition to the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) proposed policy prohibiting the resale of fired brass shell casings. I appreciate hearing your thoughts on this issue and I welcome the opportunity to respond.

The Defense Rehabilitation and Marketing Service (DRMS), a field activity of the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), is the DOD branch responsible for the clearance of excess and surplus supplies and property. The effort to dispose excess military supply dates back to World War II when the federal government wanted to reduce its military equipment by making it available to civilians. DRMS protects the country by not releasing any piece of equipment that could jeopardize national security without properly deutilizing or demilitarizing the product.

The DRMS is concerned that these items sold to the public may pose a security risk. To strengthen current controls and to mitigate future security risk, the DOD issued a policy that prohibits the sale of military unique items controlled by the Department of State through its Munitions List. Small arms cartridge cases were originally identified as a "sensitive" Munitions List item and were withheld from sale. You will be pleased to know that the DLA conducted a review of the small arms decision and determined that cartridge cases could be released for public sale. The DRMS sales contractor has been notified of this decision and has begun the process of reoffering the brass cases that have been held pending completion of the policy review.

Since elected to Congress in 2002, I constantly upheld your Second Amendment rights and have made it a priority in Congress to defend the right to keep and bear arms. Please know that I will continue to use common sense Oklahoma values in my judgments on anti-gun legislation and federal policies, always keeping in mind that the vast majority of gun owners are law abiding citizens, merely trying to protect their families, themselves, and their right to hunt and participate in shooting sports.

Again, thank you for contacting me. It is an honor to serve you in Washington and Oklahoma. If you would like more information on issues, or would like to share your thoughts with me via e-mail, you may visit my website at http://sullivan.house.gov. Please do not hesitate to contact me again should you have further concerns on federal legislation or programs.

Sincerely,

John Sullivan

You left off his postscript:

P.S. And please give me all your biometric data willingly, so I won't have to use the force of government to take it from you.
